| House leadership crushes opposition to U.S. Trade Policy. Peru FTA
(H.R. 3688) passes with 285-132 vote. The postponement of the Peru FTA vote last evening offered a glimmer of hope that the plans of Nancy Pelosi and Charlie Rangel to stab Democratic constituents in the back were unraveling. In the end, however, the two Democratic leaders were able to deliver a "yea" vote on the measure for the Bush White House. The Senate has 15 legislative days to act on the measure under fast-track rules that were in force when the agreement was negotiated. Contact your senators now and urge them to oppose the passage of the Peru free trade agreement. Your actions could prevent this disastrous bill from passing the Senate! Please forward this alert to others in your sphere of influence and ask them to take part the effort to stop the expansion of NAFTA by implementing additional so-called "free trade" agreements such as the recently House-passed Peru free trade agreement.
